Every year on April 22, the world celebrates World Earth Day, also known as International Mother Earth Day. Countries from all around the world have joined together to raise awareness about the critical need to safeguard our environment. The focus of the day is on the global climate problem, which is deteriorating by the day.

On this important day, we focus on the growing environmental issues of overpopulation, biodiversity loss, ozone depletion, and rising pollution.

Because it is spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere at this time, the World Earth Day celebration on April 22 is significant. Since the weather is also pleasant at this time, it is more enjoyable to prolong the special day's activities.

'Invest in our planet' is the theme for Earth Day 2022. The theme for 2021 was 'Restore our Earth,' and the theme for 2020 was 'Climate Action.'

The origin of Earth Day

The inaugural Earth Day was on April 22, 1970. During a UNESCO summit in San Francisco, peace activist John Mc Connell proposed honoring our Mother planet and the concept of peace.

Notably, it was previously determined that World Earth Day would be observed on March 21, 1970. It is the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Following that, US Senator Gaylord Nelson proposed a national day of environmental awareness on April 22, 1970. It eventually turned to"Earth Day."

What is the significance of the day?

Millions of people connect on Earth Day to discuss environmental issues such as pollution and deforestation. Many people take part in and organize events centered on environmental literacy to educate young minds about various climatic challenges.

On Earth Day, Google created a series of animations depicting four different locations to raise awareness about climate change. Today, when you open the Google Search homepage in the Chrome browser, you will be greeted by a timelapse animation. These animations will update every hour to highlight how climate change affects people over time.

Earth has always provided us with all of our needs and comforts. It looks after everyone like a mother, and we must protect and care for it as much as possible. Make a promise to love Mother Earth as much as you love yourself this Earth Day.
